F.A.Q. For partial moves LCL (Less than Container Load)

1. What is the definition of LCL Shipments?
LCL stands for Less than Container Load, which is a shipment that is not large enough to fill a standard container. These types of shipments will be transported inside an ocean container, along with other shipments being shipped to the same destination.
2. How does CMS Shipping quote LCL consolidated shipments?
Our tariff is based on a rate per CBM (cubic meter).
3. How does CMS Shipping calculate the CBM?
In order to obtain the cubic meter of any object, you need to have three dimensions: length, width and height, in either inches or centimeters.

Example in inches:
48” x 40” x 60” = 115,200 ÷ by 1728 = 66.67 ÷ by 35.3145 = 1.89 CBM
Example in centimeters:
0.80 cm x 0.96 cm x 1.78 cm = 1.37 CBM.
4. How can I determine the total volume that I will have prior to my goods arriving to CMS Shipping´s warehouse?
  1. If you decide to ship your belongings on wooden pallets, we can give you an estimation based on the individual dimensions of each of your boxes, trunks, suitcases or whichever type of package that you may be using.
  2. If you decide to ship your belongings in a wooden crate, we will need the exact dimensions (length x width x height) to be able to quote you on the exact requested volume.
  3. We can provide an electronic volume calculator that will allow you to calculate all your belongings.  To obtain your volume calculator please click here.
5. How will CMS Shipping transport our goods?

We will place your belongings on either wooden pallets wrapped with plastic, or we can tailor make a wooden crate to the size that you require.

  • Wooden fumigated pallets are 48” x 40” x 8” (length x width x height). Once we have loaded your belongings on the pallet, we will measure the entire pallet to obtain the total volume in CBM.
  • Wooden fumigated crates are made to measure and are more costly than wooden pallets, but can minimize theft, extra handling and damage.
